Former Scotland stars to take on World Cup legends
Scotland have been drawn in a group with Mexico, Spain and England at the Star Sixes.
It may have been 19 years since Scotland last qualified for a World Cup but a team of former players will represent the country against some of the game's most illustrious names this summer.
Scotland are one of 12 teams lined up for the Star Sixes Legends Cup at the O2 Arena in London in July.
They have been drawn in a group of death alongside the Auld Enemy, England.
As well as former Scotland internationals such as former Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson and Celtic's treble-winning goalkeeper Rab Douglas taking part, fans will also be treated to a return to action for a whole list of World Cup and Champions League winning icons.
Already signed up to the tournament are Brazil and Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos, former Italy and Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero and Liverpool's Champions League-winning captain Steven Gerrard.
More big names taking part include Carlos Puyol, Michael Ballack, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen and Marcel Desailly.
Scotland will kick off their campaign against a Mexico side that will include 90s goalkeeper Jorge Campos, famed for his flamboyant kits and acrobatic style, on Thursday, July 13.
They will take on England the next day before finishing up their group A games against a star-studded Spain side on the Saturday.
Alongside Ferguson and Douglas, the Scotland line-up will be made up of Jackie McNamara, Neil McCann, Christian Dailly, Simon Donnelly, Paul Dickov, Mark Burchill and the man who scored the winning goal in Scotland's last victory over England, Don Hutchison.
Every player taking part will have had full international honours for their chosen side.
The other teams ready to take part are Brazil, Nigeria, Italy and China in group B and Germany, France, Portugal and Denmark in group C.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the second stage along with the two best runner-ups so it's all set for a nail-biting final group game on Saturday, July 15.
The semi-finals and final will be held on Sunday, July 16.
Organisers Pitch International, in partnership with Football Champions Tour, have announced the NSPCC as its official charity partner for the tournament.
Former Scotland striker Don Hutchison cannot wait to get started.
He said: "Star Sixes is going to be absolutely brilliant and I can't wait for it to start.
"I've played in tournaments around the world since retiring but none of them has ever had such a stellar line-up, not just with great players but also so many who were still playing recently.
"England have Steven Gerrard and Emile Heskey, who have only just quit, and then you look at Robert Pires.
"The sheer calibre of players involved is incredible - Roberto Carlos, Alessandro Del Piero, Michael Ballack, Deco, Jay-Jay Okocha and many more."
