Heavy snow forecast as winds of up to 120mph batter Scotland

Heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures are expected to return to Scotland as gusts of up to 120mph hit the country.
The central belt is expected to be among the worst affected on Monday, while the latest bout of wintry weather is also predicted to hit the Grampian, Highlands and Tayside areas.
A storm wind gust of 120mph was recorded at 4am on Monday on the Cairngorm summit. Heavy snow and sleet is expected to fall throughout the day, causing disruption to roads.
The Met Office upgraded a yellow warning for severe weather to amber on Monday morning, with the Central, Strathclyde, Tayside, Highlands and Islands and Lothian and Borders expected to be affected.
On Monday morning, the strong winds forced the closure of the Forth Road Bridge, the Erskine Bridge, the Clackmannanshire Bridge and the Skye Bridge to high vehicles.
Many ferry services in the Western Isles were disrupted with cancellations on services to Barra and South Uist, Colonsay, Harris, Lewis, North Uist, Skye and the Small Isles. Passengers should check with Caledonian MacBrayne before they travel.
Northlink Ferries to Orkney and Shetland are also affected, with some cancellations and other services "under review". Again, passengers are asked to check before they are due to travel.
Stormy weather on the Outer Hebrides could bring waves of between 10m and 14m, which could come over the top of causeways on the island chain.
STV weather presenter Sean Batty said: "Heavy sleet, snow and hail showers will blow through during the day and some areas may see these showers come through very frequently, bringing with it the possibility of large accumulations of snow and deep drifts in places, given the strong winds."
