The number of firearm certificates issued in Scotland has increased for the first time in five years.
There were 26,020 firearm certificates and 48,799 shotgun certificates on issue at the end of 2013 - a respective increase of one per cent on 2012.
There were 84,358 firearms held on certificate across Scotland in 2013, and 48,779 shotguns.
However, the number of registered firearm dealers fell from 353 in 2012 to 350 in 2013.
Plans for a new licensing scheme for airguns in Scotland were announced by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill earlier this month.
Anyone who owns an airgun will need a licence under new measures proposed by the Scottish government.
Mr MacAskill met Andrew Morton and Sharon McMillan, who have been campaigning on the issue since their toddler son died after being shot with one of the weapons in 2005.
