A revolutionary new dental technique to rebuild lost smiles is being pioneered in Perthshire.
Digital Smile Design uses state-of-the-art computer imaging software to create the perfect smile.
Developed in Brazil, the technique changes the face of cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry — instead of making putty impressions, plaster models and hoping for the best, dentists and dental technicians use computer imaging software to help design a smile that aims to be a perfect fit for the patients' mouth.
At Cherrybank dental spa in Perth, Dr Elaine Halley is one of the first in Europe to pioneer the technology, which effectively allows patients to choose what they will look like before the work to repair or remodel their teeth has even started.
Dr Halley said while the significance to cosmetic dentistry was obvious, the benefits to people who have lost their smiles through injury or decay are huge as the software can draw upon old photographs to put the same smile back on patient's faces.
