An air ambulance and container ship have been targeted with a laser pen, prompting a warning from police.

The incidents took place on Friday, February 26, firstly in Greenock, Inverclyde, where the helicopter was targeted, then later a container ship on the River Clyde.

Police have now issued a warning over the incidents and said it was "particularly worrying" an air ambulance was involved.

Officers have now launched a hunt for those responsible and are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police are appealing to the public for information after two separate incidents were reported over the course of last weekend whereby a laser light was directed at the air ambulance helicopter and also a container ship carrying out duties on the Clyde.

"The shining of a laser light can have very serious consequences, endangering the crew, passengers, and the public. Police Scotland are keen to trace anyone involved in these incidents.

"Such irresponsible behaviour can have potentially serious consequences for both airline or ship passengers and crew.

"The fact that the air ambulance was targeted was particularly worrying as this is a critical service to people living in the area.

"Similar cases have been successfully prosecuted and those found guilty of participating in such behaviour are liable to a term of imprisonment.

"We would urge anyone with any information to come forward and contact oolice on 101."
