A new gallery which will tell the story of Glasgow Green is to open at the People's Palace.

The gallery space, titled On The Green, will explore the Doulton Fountain and former James Templeton and Son carpet factory in detail, each of which is framed by a window in the gallery.

On The Green is the first new permanent gallery space to be opened by Glasgow Museums in ten years.

Councillor Archie Graham, said: "Glasgow Green has had a long history as a leisure and recreation space, but also as a place of work, debate and learning and protest.

"On The Green includes stories relating to many activities on the Green and the River Clyde, with particular attention given to the iconic Doulton Fountain and Templeton’s carpet factory.

"We are very pleased to increase Glasgow Museums gallery space and put even more of the city’s treasures on public display.

"The People’s Palace is a wonderful place for one generation to bring the next to learn a little about the past and our new display can only assist with this. We are grateful to Museums Galleries Scotland for their support with the expansion."

Joanne Orr, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland, said: "This is an exciting new phase for the People’s Palace. The new gallery space will augment the visitor experience and will really encourage people to engage with the local heritage.

"I am very pleased we have been able to support this project through our Strategic Investment Fund.”
