One of Scotland's most wanted fugitives is believed to still be on the run in the Netherlands almost ten years after he raped a woman in Glasgow.

Rezgar Zengana, 33, posed as a minicab driver in Glasgow in December 2006 before picking up a 25-year-old woman who he subjected to a sex attack.

He was convicted of rape but has yet to be sentenced after fleeing Scotland. He is on Police Scotland's most wanted list.

Zengana is among nine fugitives, including two murder suspect and an alleged drug smugglers, being hunted by British authorities

Zengana is around 6ft tall, of slim build, with black hair and brown eyes. He is described as being of "Middle Eastern appearance" and was born in Iraq in 1983. He has been known to use various aliases, including Abdul Qadar, Rusheer Ahmed, Syed Waq and Ali Kermin.

Zengana picked up his victim in Argyle Street in December 2006 while posing as a private hire driver as she made her way home from a Christmas party.

He took her to a property in Cessnock where he carried out the attack and was convicted but bailed while awaiting sentence and disappeared.

Police believe the rapist is currently on the run in the Netherlands.

Crimestoppers chairman Lord Ashcroft said: "With the support of the Dutch authorities and the public, we are confident that we can successfully hunt these people down."

Dave Allen, from the NCA, said: "Those who believe they can use the Netherlands to evade capture or continue illegal activities soon find out that it is not a safe haven."
