Four children and two women needed medical treatment after a fire in a tenement block.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire within a block of flats in Glasgow's Govan area on Monday night.

Three girls and two women were treated by fire crews for smoke inhalation at the scene on Shaw Street at around 9.45pm while the ambulance service made its way.

One boy and one of the girls were then taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The fire broke out in a ground floor flat in the block.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "We received an emergency call around 9.45pm on Monday reporting a fire in a close in Shaw Street, Govan.

"Firefighters arrived to find a fire within a ground floor tenement." He said everyone was accounted for and the fire extinguished.
