The public have donated almost £14,000 to the family of a 15-year-old girl who was found murdered on Monday morning.

Paige Doherty, from Clydebank in West Dunbartonshire, was reported missing on Saturday after failing to turn up for work at a hairdressers.

Her body was found in a wooded area next to Great Western Road around a mile from where she was last seen on Monday morning.

Police confirmed they have launched a murder inquiry and are appealing for anyone who may have seen Paige after her last confirmed sighting, at 8.20am on Saturday, to come forward.

On Wednesday, officers issued a number which will give direct access to the investigation team.

Anyone with information is asked to phone 0141 532 5443 / 5415 or email OperationTalverton@scotland.pnn.police.uk.

The money has been donated, via two Go Fund Me pages, to help pay for funeral costs and to set up a memorial fund.

One fund, set up by family friend Lynsay Smith, has raised £7285.

The page states: "I am raising money for Paige who sadly was taken from her family at the age of 15. Us, the community, want to raise as much as possible, thanks.

"All the money raised is to help Pamela, her mum, and Andrew, her step-dad, with any funeral arrangements and anything else to ease the pain that they are going through at this time."

The other fund mentions a possible donation to the Isobel Donnelly School of Dance, where Paige was a student.

Set up by Gail Duncan, it has raised £6913.

The page states: "This is a fund set up to raise money for Paige Doherty tragically taken from her family.

"Paige was a member of Isobel Donnelly Dance School...I have set up this fund to try and raise some money for her family to spend how they see fit in honour to remember Paige."
