A woman was subjected to a sexual assault by a man as she travelled on a late-night train.

The 53-year-old victim was travelling on the 11pm service from Glasgow Central to Airdrie on Friday when she was touched inappropriately by a man.

The suspect is described as male, around 5ft 2in tall, with short dark hair, wearing jeans, a black and white blanket–style checked jacket and black gloves.

Detective constable Finlay Bruce is appealing for anyone who was on the train and who has information which can help identify the man to come forward.

The officers wants to speak to a man in his late-20s who stayed on board to comfort the victim after the incident despite being due to leave the train at Coatdyke, where the suspect got off. The witness was carrying a guitar.
