The family of a 15-year-old girl who was murdered and her body dumped in bushes have pleaded for help to find the killer.

Paige Doherty, from Clydebank in West Dunbartonshire, was reported missing on Saturday after leaving a friend's house in the morning and failing to turn up for her part-time job at a hairdressers.

Her body was later found in a wooded area next to Great Western Road on Monday around a mile from where she was last seen and police launched a murder hunt.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen Paige after her last confirmed sighting at a roll shop in Clydebank at 8.20am on Saturday to come forward.

The schoolgirl's mother, Pamela Munro, has urged the public to come forward to help find her daughter's killer.

She said: "We are absolutely devastated that we have lost our beautiful little girl and would appeal for anyone with information to come forward and bring justice for Paige."

On Wednesday, officers issued a number which will give direct access to the investigation team.

Anyone with information is asked to phone 0141 532 5443/5415, text 07557 540 848 or email OperationTalverton@scotland.pnn.police.uk.

It was also confirmed on Wednesday that the Titan Crane in Clydebank will be lit up in pink in memory of Paige on Thursday evening until Friday morning.

West Dunbartonshire Council provost Douglas McAllister said: "Our community is in shock at this tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with Paige’s family and friends. This is a small gesture of support for everyone who knew Paige."

Detective superintendent Duncan Sloan said: "The response from our appeal yesterday has been encouraging, and a team of detectives are currently working through all information which has been passed to the incident room over the last 24 hours.

"We’ve managed to carry out significant door-to-door enquiries and are in the process of reviewing CCTV which may be useful to help track Paige’s last movements.

"Despite the progress that is being made, I would like to take this opportunity to ask the local community of Clydebank again for their assistance in helping us piece together Paige’s movements between Saturday 19 March and Monday 21 March.

"We know that the last confirmed sighting of Paige was on Saturday morning at around 0820 hours at the shop in Fleming Avenue.

"I need to hear from people who recognise her image that we have issued, and who seen her that morning. Paige was a very independent young lady, who would routinely make her way to work during the weekend over to Kirkintilloch from Clydebank, taking a bus into Glasgow City Centre onto Kirkintilloch.

"I need people to come forward with any information they have – however insignificant it may seem to them. Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Fleming Avenue on Saturday morning, and crucially, did you see anyone in the vicinity of Great Western Road, near to a wooded area on the A82 on Monday?

"This is a very busy route for cars, and popular with joggers and dog walkers. I must reiterate that a team of detectives are working around the clock to try to identify who was responsible for the death of this young girl, however, we need as much information from the local community as we can in order to achieve this.

"If you have any piece of information, no matter how small, please contact the incident room and let us know."
