The Crown has been handed a report into a crash in which a mother travelling in a taxi was killed after a police pursuit.

Marie Laurie and her husband Jamie were in a black Hackney taxi which was travelling along Springboig Road in Glasgow's east end at 1.30am on November 29 when it was struck by a green Vauxhall Astra.

The Astra had been in Springhill Industrial Estate when the police vehicle arrived and used blue lights to signal the car to pull over. The car then fled onto Edinburgh Road where it smashed into the taxi.

Mrs Laurie was on her way home from her son's wedding at the Lochside House Hotel in New Cumnock and the family had organised a minibus to take them back to the east end of Glasgow.

The minibus dropped the family off at Springboig Road leaving Mr and Mrs Laurie to get a taxi back to nearby Easterhouse. The couple had just flagged the taxi when it was struck by the Astra.

Police watchdog, the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc), were ordered to investigate the circumstances of the crash due to the police being involved prior to the collision.

A statement from Pirc said: "The commissioner was instructed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Copfs) to examine the circumstances leading up to the incident on November 29 2015 in relation to a collision between a vehicle and a taxi carrying two passengers.

"The 57-year-old woman died at the scene and the 52-year-old man was treated in hospital for his injuries.

"A report on the Commissioner's findings has been sent to the Copfs for their consideration."
