A man has been arrested following the death of 15-year-old Paige Doherty in Clydebank.

Paige, from the Whitecrook area of the town, was reported missing on Saturday after leaving a friend's house in the morning and failing to turn up for her part-time job at a hairdressers.

Her body was found on Monday in a wooded area near Goals Sports Complex just off Great Western Road in Clydebank.

Police cordoned off a row of shops in the West Dunbartonshire town on Wednesday night and erected a forensic tent around a mile from where the schoolgirl's body was found.

On Thursday evening, police confirmed they had arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with Paige's death.

He is understood to be local delicatessen owner Johnny Leatham.

Police said the man has been detained in custody and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Detective superintendent Duncan Sloan, senior investigating officer, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contacted us with information. The response from the public has been outstanding."
