A man is fighting for his life in hospital after plunging from a slip road near a motorway.

He fell from an M8 off-slip near Bothwell Street in Glasgow city centre in the early hours of Sunday.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.30am and the M8 junction 19 slip road was closed.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Around 3.30am on Sunday, police received a report of a man having fallen from the overhead bypass of the M8 in Glasgow city centre.

"Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

"Inquiries are at an early stage to establish the circumstances"

The M8 Junction 19 Bothwell St off slip was closed to traffic while police launched their investigation.
