A Scottish man who died in a crash with a lorry on a Spanish island was on a cycling trip with friends.

Graeme McGilvray, 49, from Helensburgh, Argyll, died on Tuesday afternoon after a collision on a mountain road in Alcudia on Majorca while on his bicycle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on a roundabout on a road between Alcudia and Port Alcudia just one day after arriving on the island.

Emergency services attended and an investigation has now been launched by Spanish police to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Mr McGilvray was a member of Lomond Road Cycling Club, with whom he was on a trip with when the crash happened. The group took 22 members to the holiday island and they arrived on Monday.

The group, which he was a member of for seven years, took 22 club members and only arrived on the island on Monday. It is understood the accident happened on their first cycle after arriving.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We are providing support and consular assistance to the family of a British national who died in Majorca on Tuesday. It would be inappropriate to comment further."
