A man has been arrested in connection with a fire at a block of flats in Glasgow.

The blaze at the tenement left eight people in hospital, three of them in a serious condition, and led to dozens of homes being evacuated.

Police Scotland said a 30-year-old man has been arrested and he is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

The emergency services were called to reports of "an explosion and a fire" in a ground-floor flat in Fairburn Street, Tollcross, at around 11pm on March 21.

One woman was rescued by firefighters from a top-floor flat in the four-storey block, and was among eight people taken to hospital for treatment to a range of injuries including smoke inhalation and head wounds.

At the peak of the blaze around 50 firefighters were in attendance.
