A teenager has died and a child is among three taken to hospital following a crash in Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to the B7078 Carlisle Road, near Blackwood, at around 6.15pm on Friday.

A 19-year-old man died at the scene. He was a passenger in a Seat Ibiza, which collided with a Nissan Micra.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Seat was taken to Wishaw General Hospital and hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

The 55-year-old male driver of the Nissan car is also being treated at Wishaw General Hospital where staff describe his condition as stable.

His five-year-old female passenger is currently being treated for serious injuries in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where hospital staff describe her condition as serious.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We had two appliances with around nine firefighters at the scene."

Police said report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
