Police are trying to trace a man believed to have been seriously injured following a disturbance in Largs.

The appeal comes after a 26-year-old man sustained serious injuries following a disturbance in Rae Court, Largs, at around 2.50am on Sunday.

He was taken by ambulance to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he was treated by staff. He has since left the hospital.

However, police are looking to trace a second man believed to be injured during the same incident after officers found a "blood trail" at the scene.

Detective Sergeant John Deans, Saltcoats CID, said: "From our enquiries so far, we understand that there was a disturbance involving at least two or three people which resulted in a 26 year old man, who we have traced, being injured.

"However, from a blood trail at the scene, we know that at least one other person, another man, appears to have been quite badly injured and I would appeal to him to get medical help and contact police.

"We have had a decent response from some neighbours about what they heard or saw this morning, but would ask that anyone who has information about where the second injured man is call police."
