Teachers will go on strike for the third time this year in a ongoing dispute over cuts.

Teaching staff in West Dunbartonshire's secondary schools will continue an ongoing campaign against cuts to principal teacher posts by staging two days of strike action from Tuesday.

Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), the country's largest teaching union, will be on picket lines at each of West Dunbartonshire's secondary schools.

Industrial action began in January with five schools across the local authority area closing while teachers picketed outside.

EIS then suspended the programme of action in January to allow teachers to be balloted on a revised proposal from the council.

However, following a significant rejection of the proposal in the ballot in March, further strike action was supported, with two days last month, and now a further two days beginning on Tuesday..

EIS general secretary Larry Flanagan said, "EIS representatives met with members of the council's ruling administration on Monday evening in an attempt to resolve this dispute.

"However, no agreement was reached so our members in West Dunbartonshire Secondary schools will proceed with two days of strike action on Tuesday and Wednesday this week."

He added: "Support from our members for the strike action remains very strong, and the EIS would again urge West Dunbartonshire Council to rethink their proposals which would have long-term serious repercussions for teachers and pupils in the authority's Secondary schools."
