Police are investigating the "suspicious" death of a man who was found injured in a street in Airdrie.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene on Gibb Street in the North Lanarkshire town around 5.40pm on Thursday.

Police are speaking to people in the area and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Around 5.40pm, police received a report of a man being injured in Gibb street, Airdrie.

"Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are conducting enquiries at the location and the death is being treated as suspicious.

"Anyone with any information is asked to call officers at coat bridge police office, on 101.

"Alternatively please call crime stoppers on 0800 555111 where information can be given anonymously."
