An armed robber has made off with a three-figure sum of cash after a raid at a BP garage.

Police are hunting the hooded thief who held up the petrol station in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, at the weekend.

The man entered the BP station in Milngavie Road at around 5.30pm on Sunday and threatened a member of staff with a weapon, which it is understood was not a firearms.

He then stole the cash and made off towards Glasgow. No one was injured in the incident but the member of staff was left badly shaken, police said.

The suspect is white, around 6ft, with a slim build and dark hair. He was wearing a black jacket with a grey hooded top pulled up, grey tracksuit trousers and white trainers.

Detective sergeant John Aikman said: "We are in the process of gathering and checking CCTV footage from in and around the area but I'm appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact us.

"Any information could prove vital in our inquiries to trace the man responsible for this crime.

"Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Pollok on 101.
