A 60-year-old man was taken to hospital after being injured in an unprovoked attack in Paisley.

The victim was assaulted by two men at the entrance of a common close in Argyle Street around 3.15am on Wednesday.

He suffered a head injury in the attack and was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Police said the attack happened "for no reason" and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, aged between 16 and 25 and around 5ft 6in. He is of medium build with short blonde hair and pale skin and was wearing a grey hooded top with black writing across the chest.

The second suspect is described as white, aged between 16 and 19, around 5ft 3in and wearing a dark top.

Detective constable Jamie Howarth said: "A 60-year-old man has been attacked for no reason.

"We know there was a lot of shouting at the time of the incident and local residents would have heard the disturbance. Perhaps you looked out your window and saw the attackers."
