Two men have appeared in court charged with stalking £161m lottery winner Christine Weir in Scotland.

John McGowan and Alan Marsh deny following and acting in a threatening manner towards EuroMillions winner Mrs Weir, 59, near her mansion in Troon, South Ayrshire.

The pair are due to face trial at Ayr Sheriff Court next month and appeared in the dock on Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing.

Mrs Weir's car was allegedly pursued by McGowan, 46, from Troon, and Marsh, 67, from Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, along Monktonhead Road in Troon.

They are accused of following her while she was travelling on Monktonhead Road and at the Bellfield roundabout in Kilmarnock on January 6.

They deny behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.

McGowan and Marsh were represented by solicitor John Gallagher during Wednesday's short hearing. Mr Gallagher appeared for the men on behalf of their own solicitors.

He told Sheriff Mhairi Mactaggart that the solicitors representing both McGowan and Marsh were ready for the trial to begin as planned.

He explained: "Matters are fully prepared for trial."

Sheriff Mactaggart adjourned the case until the trial and continued bail for both men.

Mrs Weir became the country's biggest lottery winner in 2011 when she scooped £161m along with her husband Colin, a former STV cameraman.
