A man has been airlifted to hospital after he was reportedly attacked in Helensburgh.

The injured man was found in the town's James Street around 5.30pm on Thursday.

A helicopter was called and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

His condition is not yet known and officers say their investigation is at an early stage.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 5.30pm, officers were called to reports of a man being attacked in James Street, Helensburgh.

"Police and ambulance staff attended and the man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital via ambulance helicopter where his condition is as yet unknown.

"Officers are still at the scene and the investigation is at an early stage."
