Six men have been arrested after a haul of drugs worth almost £40,000 was seized during police raids.

Officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Unit launched an operation in Springburn Way in the north of Glasgow at 9.30am on Thursday. Two men, aged 20 and 29, were arrested at the scene.

A further operation resulted in a quantity of heroin and crack cocaine being seized from a house in the same street, police said.

A spokesman for the force claimed the drugs recovered were worth around £13,000. A further two men, both aged 53, were also arrested.

Then at 6.50pm, police raided a house in Viewpoint Place, Springburn and a cannabis haul with an estimated street value of £25,000 was recovered.

Two men, aged 22 and 23, have been arrested and are detained in police custody in connection with the find. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal and the pair are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

Chief inspector Joe McKerns said: "The drugs seized yesterday will not be on our streets this weekend or any other time.

"These operations were intelligence-led and due to local people supplying us with vital information. We were then able to take action, resulting in six arrests and serious and harmful drugs being recovered.

"Operations such as these demonstrate our commitment to listening to local people's concerns and to ridding our communities of drugs."
