A 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital after a man threw a glass bottle in her face in a "despicable" assault.

Police said the attack happened around 1am outside a Spar near Cafe India on Great Western Road, Glasgow.

The victim and her friend were involved in an argument with a man who had left the shop just before them.

The man then got into a saloon car before throwing a glass bottle at the victim and speeding off towards Byres Road.

She was struck in the face and was later taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to be treated for a serious facial injury. She has now been released.

The man is thought to be between 30 to 35 years old, with a shaven head and was wearing a dark-coloured rain jacket.

Detective constable Robert Allen from Partick CID said: "This was a despicable assault on a 16-year-old girl who has been left badly shaken and with a serious facial injury as a result.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed what happened to get in touch.
