The demolition of a block of high-rise flats in Glasgow has been heard thundering across the city.

Norfolk Court, in the Gorbals area, has been brought down to make way for the development of 201 homes.

An exclusion zone was set up around the 24-storey building from 8am on Sunday.

Spectators gathered to watch the tower come down when the blast eventually went off at around 10.30am.

Residents living near the block had been evacuated for safety beforehand.

Those watching the demolition spoke about the thundering sound of the blast while others commented on the city's ever-changing skyline.

Norfolk Court was built in the 1970s and was once home to more than 270 families.

Comedian and broadcaster Des Clarke also used to live there.

Three of four blocks on the site were brought down in the last ten years with nearly 800 tenants rehoused during that time.

Demolition of the last high rise will allow the £24m housing development by New Gorbals Housing Association to go ahead.
