A climber missing for more than two months in the Cairngorms has been described as a "doting father" and "a true hill lover".

Jim Robertson, from Glasgow, was reported missing when he failed to return from a trip to the Cairngorms in March.

Police Scotland said on Friday that a body had been found in Glen Lui, Aberdeenshire and that Mr Robertson's family had been told.

Writing on Facebook, his daughter Lynn Robertson said: "Although formal identification is yet to take place, I'm completely heartbroken to say that it was our dad who was recovered from Creag a'choire Etchachan."

She thanked all those who have supported the family and praised the rescue volunteers who worked tirelessly to help find her father.

"I'd like to ask that our dad is not remembered as 'a body found in the Cairngorms' but as a doting father, an adored brother, a loving son and of course a true hill lover," she added.

"A kindred spirit has reached out to our family with these touching words 'He will be soaring with the Eagles above the mountain tops. What a view he will have.' Soar high dad."

A major search operation was launched - involving more than 80 volunteers from mountain rescue teams, along with specialist search officers, search and rescue dogs and a coastguard helicopter - in the days after the 61-year-old was reported missing.

The experienced hillwalker was believed to have stayed in the Bob Scott Bothy in Glen Lui, about eight miles from Braemar.

The family has raised nearly £12,0000 for Braemar Mountain Rescue Team in his memory.

A statement posted on the team's Facebook page on Friday said: "Today the team assisted Police Scotland in recovering a body which was found in the Loch Etchachan area in the central Cairngorms.

"The Robertson family are aware and our thoughts are with them all at this time."
