Five men have been arrested after police stopped a number of vehicles and found drugs worth almost £500,000.

Officers seized 9kg of cocaine and £125,000 in cash after searching four vehicles in Glasgow and Renfrew on Wednesday.

In a separate operation, 58kg of cannabis resin was recovered after another vehicle was stopped in Glasgow on the same day.

The cocaine is said to have a street value of around £360,000 and the cannabis £125,000.

A police spokeswoman said both operations were intelligence-led.

In the wake of the finds, five men aged 50, 39, 36, 24 and 34 were arrested in connection with drugs offences.

They are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

Inspector Joseph O'Neill said: "This was a significant recovery which has reduced the potential harm which could have been caused by these drugs in our communities across Glasgow and Renfrew."
