Two people have been injured after a disturbance on Buchanan Street.

Police and emergency services were called to Glasgow city centre at around 4.10pm on Friday after reports of a disturbance.

Police said between ten and 12 "male youths" were involved in the altercation near Buchanan Street steps.

Two of those involved, a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old, were treated for wounds - understood to be stabbing injuries - by ambulance crews following the incident.

One was then taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the other to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Police cordoned off a section of the busy street near its junction with Bath Street while they carried out inquiries. Officers also removed a jacket from the scene.

Inspector Shaun Ramsay, of Baird Street Police, is appealing for witnesses.

He said: "We received reports of a disturbance involving around ten to 12 male youths in Buchanan St near to the underground station and at this time two young men are being treated in hospital, although thankfully their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

"Anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has captured the disturbance on their phones is asked to contact officers at Baird Street Police Office on 101."
