A man seriously injured in a caravan fire linked to the murder of his partner has died in hospital.

Andrena Douglas, 53, was found dead in the couple's home on Crusader Crescent in Stewarton, East Ayrshire, when officers went to the property at around 6.20am on Thursday, June 9.

They went there to tell Ms Douglas her partner Robert Galbraith, 50, had been found seriously injured on the same morning after a fire at nearby Peacockbank Farm in the town.

Police Scotland had been investigating if the two events were connected and have confirmed they now believe they are linked.

They confirmed Mr Galbraith has died from his injuries in hospital after the incident. They are following a positive line of inquiry and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "The 50-year-old man who was found suffering from serious burns near to Peacockbank Farm, Stewarton on Thursday June died within Glasgow Royal Infirmary on Monday June 13.

"He can be named as Henry Galbraith of Crusader Crescent, Stewarton, Ayrshire. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

"Enquiries into the death of Mr Galbraith and also the death of Andrena Douglas, 53, of Crusader Crescent on Thursday 9 June are continuing however police are following a definite line of enquiry."

The force revealed on Saturday that it is treating Ms Douglas' death as murder following the results of a post-mortem examination carried out the previous day.

A force spokeswoman said: "Police are treating her death as murder and inquiries are continuing."
