The mother of missing Kirsty Aitchison has thanked family, friends and members of the deaf community for their support.

Police are searching Glasgow city centre for Ms Aitchison, 30, after she went missing in the early hours of Sunday.

Her last known movements were captured by CCTV on the Broomielaw near the River Clyde.

Ms Aitchison's mother Fay said: "Whilst this is a very difficult time for us all as we wait in hope to hear from Kirsty, I would personally like to thank all her friends, family members and people from the deaf community who have been busy raising awareness of the fact that my lovely daughter is missing.

"The sharing of information and searching areas for Kirsty is very much appreciated by us all.

"The police are speaking to us continually with updates on their search for Kirsty and we hope to have her returned to us safe and well as we miss her terribly."

Ms Aitchison was captured on CCTV walking down Argyle Street without her shoes, then on to James Watt Street and the Broomielaw at 3.16am.

A British Sign Language user, she was on a night out with a group of other deaf people at Campus on Sauchiehall Street.

She is described as white, 5ft and of slim build with long, dark hair and was last seen she was wearing a black top, cream skirt and black sandals.

It is thought the group planned on going to the casino after leaving Campus.

Inspector Stuart Clemenson from Greater Glasgow Division said: "Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries, review other CCTV footage and use specialist resources to search for Kirsty.

"We ask local communities to continue to help us by sharing the appeals, raising awareness and contacting us with any information they may have.

"Police Scotland has specialised, trained resources including search officers and the air support unit to support those community policing officers conducting enquiries.

"We're aware of speculation about Kirsty's movements however her last confirmed sighting is at the Broomielaw and we are currently focusing our efforts there and in the city centre.

"I would appeal again for anyone who may have seen Kirsty in the early hours of Sunday morning or who may know of her whereabouts to get in touch on 101."

Detectives have also set up a dedicated email address - kirstyenquiry@scotland.pnn.police.uk - to help gather any further information from members of the public.
