A Glasgow woman has been left stunned after she received a birthday card seven years late via the Royal Mail.

In 2009, Lyndsey Kean was sent a card for her 30th birthday by her aunt, but the pink envelope did not arrive as planned.

Now 37 years old, Lyndsey finally received the birthday card on Friday.

The letter was delivered to her mother's house in Maryhill, Glasgow, where she used to live.

The card came with a note from the Royal Mail apologising for a tear in the envelope, but the reason for the seven-year delay remains a mystery.

Lyndsey told STV News: "This pink card got sent to my mum's house, it was a 'Happy 30th birthday' card.

"The address was correct but the envelope didn't have a postcode on it.

"It's obviously been sitting in a sorting office for seven years. I just think it's hilarious."

Lyndsey, who will turn 38 in November, joked: "I wish it was my 30th birthday!

"The ironic thing is my dad used to be a postman, so I said the Royal Mail isn't what it used to be."

The Royal Mail have apologised but have yet to offer an explanation for the seven-year delay.

A spokeswoman said: "We apologise for the item of mail being delivered late and in a damaged condition.

"Every item of mail is important to us as we handle millions of items a day across the UK.

"We will investigate the matter further if the recipient contacts Royal Mail Customer Services on 03457 740740 with evidence of the damaged mail."
