The body of a man has been discovered in a river next to a busy city road.

Police and fire crews were called to the River Kelvin in Glasgow on Tuesday afternoon after a body was spotted in the water.

He was recovered from the river at Kelvindale Road in the city's Maryhill area at around 4.30pm and detectives are now investigating.

The death is being treated as unexplained and the man has yet to be formally identified.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Around 4.35pm on Tuesday, July 26 police were called to River Kelvin near Kelvindale Road and the body of a man was recovered from the water.

"Formal identification has still to take place and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death and a full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
