Around 100 police officers joined by the dog branch, horses and undercover units will attend a popular music festival in Glasgow.

The Summer Sessions concerts will take place at the city's Bellahouston Park for two days at the end of August with around 35,000 people expected each day.

Scots rockers Biffy Clyro will play on Saturday August 27 with former Oasis star Noel Gallagher performing on the Friday.

Thirty revellers were arrested and 20 others fined at superstar DJ Calvin Harris' gig at the Glasgow Park during last year's event and a number of locals complained about trouble in the area by those attending the festival.

Eight people were also arrested and 56 were given fines during Paolo Nutini's concert the following day.

Police have now revealed specialist units including the dog branch, mounted unit, plain clothes officers and a police helicopter will be deployed to the event.

The force said a city-wide police operation will be launched to ensure the safe running of the festival with officers deployed across the city centre and at main transport hubs.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The Summer Sessions has an impact throughout the city centre as well as for local residents in Bellahouston.

"The policing operation will be in effect across the city of Glasgow. At main transport hubs and routes to Bellahouston Park, we will be working with partners to ensure a safe and secure event.

"Specialist police resources, such as the mounted branch, dog units and the police helicopter, will work to augment the work of contracted security providers in order to deliver a safe and secure event.

"Alongside the event organisers, we have been listening to the views of the local community and have been in regular communication to ensure that local residents are aware of our plans."
