A carer who abused and neglected two vulnerable elderly residents and prevented them from using the bathroom has been struck off.

Barbara MacDonald forced one elderly woman to regularly urinate and defecate on herself and removed her buzzer so she could not call for help.

The woman was also excluded from activities and subjected to racist verbal abuse by MacDonald who worked as a care assistant for Littleinch Ltd.

Another vulnerable service user at the home, which has not been named, was frequently told they could not go to the toilet and to "wait until the back shift."

The Scottish Social Services Council ruled MacDonald had committed misconduct and exposed the vulnerable residents, who have not been named, to neglect and harm through her actions from February to April 2014.

In its report it stated: "You failed to provide AA and BB with an acceptable level of personal care in that you did not respond to their needs and reasonable requirements regarding assistance in going to the toilet.

"By refusing to assist AA and BB to go to the toilet, knowing that this would cause them discomfort and distress, and through your rough treatment of AA, you failed to respect the dignity of both service users.

"Your actions towards AA were both neglectful and abusive and exposed AA and BB to the risk of emotional and physical harm.

"There is evidence that this neglect and abuse occurred on numerous occasions and that AA and BB were regularly at risk of harm."

After a two day hearing the SSSC's sub-committee removed MacDonald from the care register.

"You have demonstrated that you cannot be relied upon to provide vulnerable service users with the level of care to which they are reasonably entitled."
