The five millionth visitor at the Glasgow Science Centre has been awarded a lifetime membership of the visitor attraction.

Pamela Rae and her family received the lifetime memberships on Sunday and were also given a VIP tour.

The centre opened its doors in 2001 and has now welcomed almost as many people through its doors as live in Scotland.

Dr Stephen Breslin, CEO at Glasgow Science Centre said: "Welcoming Pamela, our five millionth visitor, is a fantastic milestone and we are all very proud of how successful Glasgow Science Centre has become.

"We've worked, and continue to work, incredibly hard to help improve people's understanding of science and it's great to see all that hard work paying off.

"The appeal of the centre, I believe, is down to the fact that we've taken concepts in science and given them relevance to people's everyday lives."

Ms Rae said: "The Glasgow Science Centre is terrific and we've visited it on numerous occasions before. Each time there's something new on offer for us to enjoy and something new to learn about.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to have been given lifetime membership, as are my dad, husband, and two children, and all of us are looking forward to coming back time and time again.

"As the centre's five millionth visitor my friends, family, and I being treated to a celebratory day, including a VIP tour, private screening in the planetarium, front seats to a science show, and more.

"The day also falls on the third year anniversary of my heart transplant and I cannot think of a better way to celebrate it than being in such a wonderful place with family and friends.

"I'd like to offer my sincere thanks to the Glasgow Science Centre for arranging such a special day for us."
