A man made off with a four-figure sum of money after threatening two bank workers at an RBS branch in Rutherglen.

Police said the robbery took place in Burnside around 3.40pm on Tuesday.

Officers have now appealed for anyone who may have seen the suspect loitering outside the bank before the robbery.

The two bank workers, aged 30 and 57, were uninjured in the incident but left very frightened.

Detective sergeant Martin McKendrick, of Cambuslang CID, said: "The suspect made off from the bank along Stonelaw Road heading towards the local Tesco.

"He is white, of slight to medium build and approximately 5ft 8in in height. He was wearing what appeared to be a scarf across his face and the hood from a top up, a distinctive bright orange jacket that had a white logo on the sleeve and blue jeans.

"We are checking CCTV at the moment to see whether he had been in the vicinity of the bank prior to the robbery but in meantime would ask anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery - who may have seen him loitering or acting suspiciously, to contact police."

He continued: "Thankfully, no one was injured but it was a very frightening experience for the staff involved who are both women, aged 30 and 57 years, and it is imperative that we catch him.

"If you have any information that will help our enquiry, then please contact Cambuslang CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
