Former Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas' company has gone bust with debts of around £110,000.

The Sky Sports pundit's firm has been placed into liquidation after a legal action at Glasgow Sheriff Court in relation to unpaid debts.

The court heard an application to appoint an interim liquidator last month for the firm Claremont Media Promotions, which Nicholas used to channel his earnings as a football pundit.

Claremont had around £33,000 in the bank last year and was owed £77,000, according to accounts, but was also about £110,000 in debt to creditors.

The former Scotland international, who also played for Arsenal and Aberdeen, appointed debt specialists in a bid to rescue his firm but legal action was initiated.

A meeting of creditors to choose a liquidator and decide whether a liquidation committee should be appointed will will take place next month.

A public notice in a national newspaper on the liquidation stated: "I, Maureen Elizabeth Leslie, insolvency practitioner, of MLM Solutions hereby give notice that I was appointed interim liquidator of Claremont Media Promotions Ltd on July 19 2016, by interlocutor of the sheriff at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

"Notice is also given that the first meeting of creditors of the above named company will be held on August 26, for the purposes of choosing a liquidator and of determining whether to establish a liquidation committee.

"Creditors whose claims are unsecured, in whole or in part, are entitled to attend and vote in person or by proxy providing that their claims and proxies have been submitted and accepted at the meeting or lodged beforehand.

"A resolution will be passed when a majority in value of those voting have voted in favour of it. For the purpose of formulating claims, creditors should note that the date of commencement of the liquidation is June 28."
