A man has been arrested in connection with four raids at petrol stations and bookmakers within three miles of each other.

The first incident happened at a Betfred bookmakers in Springburn, in the north of Glasgow, on Friday, July 29.

A three-figure sum of cash was allegedly stolen in the robbery on Hawthorn Street.

The following day a BP garage was targeted on nearby Broomfield Road, also in Springburn.

A man entered and allegedly threatened staff with what appeared to be a gun but nothing was stolen.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the raids as well as two alleged attempted robberies at a William Hill on Maryhill Road and Balmore Filling Station in Lambhill.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "A 40-year-old man has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with an alleged robbery and three alleged attempted robberies in the north of Glasgow between Friday, July 29 and Tuesday, August 2."
