Three Staffordshire bull terriers attacked two dogs while roaming freely in the streets.

Police received reports about two dogs attacks in Dumfries at around 9am on Wednesday and began a search for the Staffordshire bull-type dogs.

A small terrier dog was attacked by three dogs in Carrick Road and in another incident in Waverley Road, a Labrador puppy was also attacked, again by three dogs.

Police said both the terrier and puppy were injured and the three dogs believed to have attacked them "appeared to be roaming free".

Officers traced the owner of the three dogs and have now launched an investigation.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "Police have traced the owner of the three dogs and can confirm that the animals are now secured.

"Enquires have commenced in conjunction with the local authority dog warden. Any owners of other dogs attacked or injured in the Lochside area today should contact police on 101."
