An 83-year-old man with dementia who was found in woods after going missing for three days has died.

Henry Patterson was discovered in dense woodland on Thursday by specialist search officers after disappearing at 1pm on Monday in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire.

His family and police launched a search after becoming extremely concerned for his well-being due to his condition.

On Thursday, Mr Patterson was found within a highly dense wooded area near to the canal and Cawder golf club in Bishopbriggs.

He was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary by ambulance for treatment where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

On Thursday night, police confirmed that the 83-year-old had died in hospital.

Inspector Duncan Evans said tonight: "Our thoughts, the thoughts of those in the local community and all those who shared our appeals for information, will no doubt be with the family of Mr Patterson this evening.
