A 23-year-old man is in a serious condition after he was attacked and stabbed outside a pub in Cumbernauld.

He was waiting in the car park of The Woodcutter pub in Hazel Road at around 12.25am when a white Ford Transit van pulled up beside him.

A man got out of the van, attacked the victim, then got back in and drove away from the scene.

The victim was discovered by other people leaving the pub, who alerted emergency services.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Monklands District General Hospital where he is still being treated for his injuries.

Hospital staff say his condition as stable.

Detective constable Scott McCracken at Cumbernauld CID said: "This was a very violent attack and at this time would appear to be without a motive.

"I'd like to speak to anyone who may have seen the van in the vicinity of the area either before this attack took place or leaving the car park afterwards."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coatbridge CID via 101 or alternatively get in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
