Four people were taken to hospital after a large-scale brawl broke out in the street in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called to Royal Exchange Square in Glasgow city centre at around 3.25am on Monday after violence erupted between "several people".

Three men and a woman were taken to hospital after the disturbance at the corner of Queen Street and a probe has been launched.

The area was sealed off by detectives for several hours and it is understood they are following a positive line of inquiry.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 3.25am on Monday, police received a report of a disturbance involving several people in Royal Exchange Square at the corner of Queen Street.

"Three men, aged 38, 42 and 46, and a woman aged 48 were injured and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

"They have since been released and inquiries are ongoing into the incident."
