Tributes have been paid to a popular nurse who died in an accident at home at the weekend.

Alison Clark, 36, was at home in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, on Saturday when it is understood she fell down the stairs and died.

The incident happened in the town's Arran View and Ms Clark was taken by ambulance to Monklands Hospital, where she worked as a trauma nurse. She died at around midday.

A post-mortem is due to take place to establish the cause of death but police believe there to be no suspicious circumstances.

Friends and colleagues of the trauma nurse, who worked at Monklands Hospital, described her as a "remarkable nurse" and someone who "lifted you up when you were sad , made you laugh when you wanted to cry".

A Gofundme online fundraising page has now been set up in her name and had reached more than £4000 by Monday.

Friend Alison Tedford, who set up the page, said: "On Saturday, September 10, we received the devastating news that our dear friend and work colleague Alison Clark had suddenly passed away.

"Her Monklands friends want to set this page up to help support and show Alison's family just what she meant to us.

"As a friend Alison lifted you up when you were sad , made you laugh when you wanted to cry , she was always there whether it be at the end of a phone or in person."

She added: "Her smile lit up the room, she touched the lives of so many people. She shone in her new job as a trauma nurse and just loved helping people, she was truly a remarkable nurse, such a clever girl.

"Most importantly Alison was a mum, a daughter, a sister and an aunt. Her life was filled with joy and pride of her two gorgeous girls Megan and Alix.

"She was always talking about them and was so proud of the lovely young ladies they had become.

"She loved her sister dearly and spoke with such joy about her nephews. Alison, I love you. Shine bright my dear friend."

Ruth Thompson, chief of nursing services at Monklands Hospital, said: "All of Alison's colleagues at Monklands Hospital are saddened and deeply shocked at the tragic news of her death.

"Alison was held in the highest regard by staff and patients alike and our sincere and heartfelt sympathy go to her family."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "At around midday on Saturday, police were notified that a 36-year-old woman had died at Monklands Hospital following an incident within a property in Arran View in Airdrie.

"The woman has been formally identified and relatives have been informed. A post-mortem will take place to establish the exact cause of death which is being treated as non-suspicious

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
