Four Scottish sailors who were stranded nearly 7000 miles from home are back on dry land.

The Glasgow College cadets faced the prospect of spending months at sea with no chance of returning home following the collapse of shipping giant Hanjin in August.

But their ship was finally able to dock in Singapore on Wednesday after Hanjin's largest shareholder intervened and lent the struggling firm £41.5m to let it offload its cargo.

Cadets Ruaridh Hanna, from Dingwall, David Gorniak, from Springfield, and Gavin McPhail, from Paisley, are due to arrive back in Scotland on Thursday along with a fourth sailor who has asked not to be named.

Last week, Mr Hanna's mother, Rhona MacLennan, said: "It's been very worrying - there's been so much uncertainty and so little information and the information has been very muddled.

"We're a very close family and you think you're there to look after each other but being so far away makes you feel helpless."

The Clyde Marine Training Cadets all attend the City of Glasgow College and were sponsored to participate in the work placement aboard the Hanjin Louisiana by Zodiac Maritime.
