A man was heard making racist remarks about an Asian passenger on a train between Helensburgh and Edinburgh.

British Transport Police have launched a probe following the incident on the 7.55pm service on October 2.

Passengers heard a man on his phone making racist remarks about the Asian male passenger, who was sitting nearby.

He then got involved in an argument with another man before he got off the train at Carntyne at 8.52pm.

The suspect was white, aged between 55 and 65 with receding grey hair. He was wearing a green Barbour jacket, blue jeans and a grey checked shirt.

Investigating officer Mark Harrington said: "We would like to find out a bit more about what happened on the service as we know there was some kind of altercation between passengers following a phone call made by this man.

"We know other passengers were watching the incident and so may have crucial information."
