A campaign has been launched to raise funds for the funeral of a father who was allegedly murdered.

Malcolm McLaren was found dead at his home on Clark Street in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, on September 29.

The 40-year-old had four sons and relatives have started an online crowdfunding drive to collect £2000 for funeral costs.

They also hope to have money left over to donate to the Moira Fund, established in memory of murdered businesswoman Moira Jones, which has been providing them with support.

In a statement on their Just Giving page, the family described Mr McLaren as "a much loved 40-year-old dad to four sons, an uncle, a cousin and also a brother."

Mr McLaren's cousin Gemma McCue added: "Malcolm did not have a funeral plan in place so his family are up against odds to give him the send-off he deserves.

"So all I ask is if you can donate no matter how big not small to help the family out with one less thing as you can appreciate the family are in pieces and would appreciate any help you can give to pass onto the families.

"We will also be hoping to have a bit left after Malcolm's funeral costs are paid to donate to the Moira Fund as the support and advice they have given to the family has been outstanding."

Gordon Adam McCrone, 45, has appeared in Airdrie Sheriff Court charged with Mr McLaren's murder.

He made no plea or declaration and his case was continued for further examination.
