A young brother and sister involved in a two-car crash remain in a serious condition in hospital but their condition is improving.

An eight-year-old girl and her four-year-old brother were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after the crash between a Black Chevrolet Spark and a Red Vauxhall Corsa on Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened on the B780 Dalry to Kilbirnie road near its junction with the B784 at around 2.30pm.

They remain at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where their condition is described as serious but stable by medical staff.

Their 28-year-old mother who was driving the Corsa was also hurt but not seriously.

A 66-year-old woman who was driving the Chevrolet and her passenger, a 32-year-old man, were both taken to Crosshouse Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

The B780 has been closed to allow for police enquiries and local diversions remain in place.

Police are appealing for any information which may help to establish the circumstances of the crash.
