An 11-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after he was hit on the head by a bottle outside Hampden.

The incident took place on Aitkenhead Road shortly before kick-off in the Old Firm match around 2pm on Sunday.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance but his injuries are not thought to be serious and he is expected to be released soon.

Later on Sunday, police said there had been a total of 18 arrests in and around the stadium at the Betfred Cup semi-final.

The arrests were mainly for minor public order offences, but a 27-year-old man was detained over an alleged sectarian breach of the peace outside the ground.

A 17-year-old man was also detained after allegedly being in possession of a pyrotechnic device inside the stadium.

Police Scotland said their inquiries into the incident involving the 11-year-old boy were ongoing.

A spokeswoman said: "Around 2pm on Sunday, October 23 an 11-year-old boy sustained a head injury after being hit by a bottle whilst walking along Aitkenhead Road, Mount Florida.

"He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment."
